The VCE Course
VCE stands for the 'Victorian Certificate of Education. It is the Year 12 (Form 6) qualification. Successful completion of the VCE leads to Degree courses.
It is the same curriculum as delivered in secondary schools. In a secondary school the VCE is delivered over two years.
Each subject is made up of four units of study. Units 1 & 2 are delivered at Year 11 level and Units 3 & 4 are delivered at Year 12 level.
At Victoria University you can complete the VCE in one year by doing Units 3 & 4 only - if you are an adult returning to study.
If you are adult (18 years +) returning to study:
- You need to complete a minimum of four subjects at Year 12 level. One of the subjects shall be English.
- You can take as many years to complete.
- However, a Year 12 subject shall be completed in the same academic year.
- 1 - 3 subjects is considered part -time study
- 4 or more subjects is considered Full Time study.
- Some students complete their VCE in one year. Some take longer, for instance, if they also work.
If you are under 18 years of age:
- You need to complete a minimum of 4 subjects or 8 Units at Year 11 and 4 Subjects at Year 12 Level.
- It takes a minimum of two years to complete. You may wish to take as many years to complete.
The only catch is - you need to finish the Year 12 subject in the same academic year while Year 11 subject can be done over a number of semesters.
Adults Defined (for the purpose of Adult VCE): must be 18 years of age on 1 January in the year of enrolment and at least one year out of the schooling system.
Students who are at least 17 years of age shall enrol in Year 11 Units 1 and 2.
